To all our HHK donors, sponsors and supporters,
I am now in California with family for a month's vacation.
Before leaving on vacation, we took all of the Hogar de Amor children on a Monday afternoon excursion to Helen's Restaurant on the beach for swimming in the 2 pools and the nearby ocean. They all enjoyed hamburgers and french fries, and a visiting couple from Montreal bought them ice cream (1st photo).
We have had 2 work teams during June. The Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church youth group, 30 strong, built great playground equipment at both the Jungle School (2nd photo) and the Hogar (3rd photo). These swings, slides, rock walls and towers are very popular with the children.
The 2nd team was from Michigan Tech, a chapter of Engineers Without Borders, that came to carry out planning for our Day Care/Nutrition Center in the town of El Porvenir (4th photo, on site).
Friday before last, we brought all the children, teachers and some mothers from the Jungle School to the Hogar de Amor and Lisa Lopes Rural School for a visit. We had about 65 children at the Hogar, the first time we have had such a crowd there (last photo, some of the kids).
Our Jungle School teacher, Angel Pacheco, had lined up a program of games, music, dancing, soccer and swimming in the nearby creek and the children had a wonderful time making new friends. We will do this again soon, and maybe take the Hogar children to the Jungle School for a visit. It is good for the Hogar children to have these outside social contacts.
We have some important events coming up this month and in September, that we will be telling you about in the coming weeks.
