About Us

Helping Honduras Kids was founded in February 2006 by people dedicated to the well being of the children of Honduras. We believe that opportunity, education and love are what children need to succeed and break out of the cycle of poverty and abuse. A loved, educated and happy child in Honduras has a real chance to succeed!

Our Vision:

To bring education, opportunity, food, shelter, medical care and a loving family environment to disadvantaged children in Honduras.

Mission Statement:
To improve the level of dignity, education, opportunity and health for orphaned, abandoned, abused and special-needs children and single mother families on the north coast of Honduras. This will be accomplished through programs designed to provide for the physical, medical, educational, recreational and emotional needs of underprivileged children   in marginalized rural communities.

Working with other Organizations

Helping Honduras Kids also works with other organizations to bring the most benefit to the children. We work in conjunction with
Special Missions, Amigos of Honduras, Project Honduras,  Lisa Lopes Foundation and Un Mundo.

We are a benevolent non-profit  501(c)3 tax exempt organization. All donations are tax deductible.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is comprised of people who have the vision and determination to make a difference for the children of Honduras.

David Ashby has worked for Dole Fresh Fruit as a Senior Research Scientist for more than 30 years, carrying out research projects in bananas and pineapples. Most of this time was spent in La Ceiba, Honduras, but research was also carried out for 1 year in the Philippines and for 6 years in Costa Rica. Dave is now retired from Dole, but has been active for many years in helping the needy, especially children, in the north coast area of Honduras. For the past 12 years, he has been involved as a volunteer in helping the  orphaned, abandoned and abused children of Honduras. In February 2006, he incorporated Helping Honduras Kids in the State of California and is dedicated to providing a brighter future for many disadvantaged children in Honduras. David is currently serving as the President and Chairman of Helping Honduras Kids.

Eve Horowitz was introduced to Helping Honduras Kids and David Ashby while visiting Honduras and Guanaja. Having visited Honduras numerous times, she initially considered sponsorship as a learning experience for her own two kids. It soon became a much larger mission as she realized how her actions and support could create immediate, tangible improvement in the lives of orphaned Honduran children. Eve brings to HHK a blend of creative and operational strengths. With 20+ years of management & leadership experience, she is an accomplished commercial writer and specializes in the area of training & development. Eve also has volunteered her energy toward a community based literacy program and fundraising for a non-profit, cooperative school. Currently Eve is working toward a certificate in fundraising as part of a masters-degree program in organizational development at the University of Pennsylvania. She has a B.A. in elementary education from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. Along with her husband Jon and their children, Madeleine and Max, Eve travels to Honduras several times each year with the dream of one day building a home on the Honduran Bay Island of Guanaja. They currently live near Philadelphia, PA. Eve is serving as Treasurer of Helping Honduras Kids and views her involvement as, "a wish come true."
